Investigation results | CBD gummies, resins and flowers with recommendation for oral consumption are offered for sale on French web shop. Currently, only hemp seed and some of its derivatives (e.g. hemp seed oil) have a proven history of consumption as a food before 15 May 1997 in the European Union. But no significant history as a food ingredient has yet been demonstrated for hemp extracts and CBD extracts. They are thus considered novel foods and are consequently banned on that basis. In addition, flowers of Cannabis sativa L. do not meet the definition of food (general food law EU 178/2002), as they appear in the list of psychotropic substances (international convention). Consequently, their use as food is prohibited. In addition, we also identified health claims on the web shop that are not authorized in accordance with the REGULATION (EC) No 1924/2006 on nutrition and health claims made on foods. |
